080122: Vanikapila 28.22

Aloha UFOhana,

I hope you all had a great weekend. A little busy for those who attend both Saturday’s Vanikapila and the Porchfest. But we certainly had a lot of fun . . . I hope . . . and we got some rain today.

Starting with last Saturday’s Vanikapila.

Click above to view online album.

And, of course, the 2022 Porchfest the following day.

I’ve enabled uploads to the album so please feel free to add any photos and / or videos of the event you’d like to share with your ‘Ohana.

Mahalo Nui Loa to the Hamiltons for hosting the UFOhana, to Carolyn (for connecting the UFOhana with the Porchfest and the Hamiltons), Jiboni and Nohea for great Tricorder Readings (i.e. photos/videos), to the PF 2022 Away Team for establishing base camp setup and tear down (that’s them below) and to all of you that participated and helped make these events possible.

As for the Livestream. It seems to have started off ok with Jeffery’s Cello performance, but, 2hrs later, when it came to our turn, the camera (my phone) seems to have over heated, wifi became intermittent, the lighting was bad, my foot slipped, the sun was in my eyes . . . I dropped the ball coach. For what it worth, at the very end of this recording we got a few minutes of our performance, though jittery. Fortunately, Nohea and Jiboni managed to record a bunch of our Hulas (see online album above).

And finally here’s the link to this Saturday’s Vanikapila.

Btw, we’re on schedule for our 2FOTMD (2nd Friday Of The Month Dinner) at the Elks . Click below to RSVP a Dinner ASAP!

Btw, if you’re a Guitar Play and need new strings you may want to check out the fundraising event below sponsored by Magic Flute. Unfortunately, this is not open to Ukuleles . . . I checked. But, I know we have a gaggle of guitarists in our ‘Ohana who might benefit.

I know it’s during one of our Vanikapila / Homecoming for Madison, but you should be able to drop off your instrument with them. Sort of a Drive By Stringing? Only in Marin right?

Need new guitar strings? Saturday, 8/13 from 11am–2pm, get a restring w/strings for a $10 donation ($45 value). It’s our 2nd Annual Restring-a-Thon Fundraiser for Musicians. Supplies are limited–get here early! Click below for more details here.

For Guitars Only.

An interesting photo project from England (I know of at least three ‘Ohana members who hail from the area).

In-England-they-gave-12-elderly-people-access-to-a-Forrest-and-were-told-to-dress-up-in-whatever-they-could-find

Pretty amazing huh? I wonder what would have happened if they gave them Ukuleles too?

Before I close, I want to reach out the UFOhana and ask that you all include Carolyn Pendry in your prayers. She’s having some health issues and could certainly use the positive energy, Mana and Aloha from her ‘Ohana. Malama Pono Carolyn!

always on our heels,
we can never out run it,
only keep ahead.

Aloha A Hui Hou,

Get well soon Aunty Carolyn.

072922: Vanikapila 27.22 and Porchfest – now with Livestream! We’re at Porch #25 Now on the Map!

Correction on our Porch Number, just received the latest map from the organizers. We’re now listed at Porch #25.

Who knows what number we’ll be tomorrow. Best to just search for us by name!

Yes you read that right. Lee has graciously allowed me to Livestream this Sunday’s Porchfest event from Porch #24 (aka The Hamiltons) for those of you unable to attend!

It’ll be a single phone camera setup, so don’t expect too much for the audio (unless I can figure out the audio connections before Sunday or maybe find a USBC Microphone for my phone).

I’ve tested the link from home and work . . . it’s very easy to setup . . . but you never know . . . . . well at least you’ll be able to view the festivities from where ever you are . . . hopefully . . . I promise to do my best to make this happen!

BOT:

Aloha UFOhana,

We’ve got two events going on this week. Starting with our weekly Vanikapila on Saturday and then the Porchfest.

The link to this Saturday’s Vanikapila 27.22 is below.

Please be sure to text me at 415-300-7804 if you’ll be joining us in the back yard this Saturday (11a-1p). For everyone’s safety, we ask that only fully vaxed attend.

That following Sunday is the 2022 Napa Porchfest. Join us if you can! Remember to wear Aloha Attire and to bring the Big Book, we’ll be playing for sometime and will need our full repertoire of songs.

Again, there’s no limit in attendance, but we do ask that your RSVP for the event just to give an idea of the number of UFOhana attending. Remember to bring your music stands, wind clips, Ukulele, and Pupus (finger food) to share with our hosts, the Hamiltons and your UFOhana.

Click to view details on our Events Page.

Be sure to check the events page periodically for upcoming events.

This past July 22 was Marion’s Anniversary. I’ve created a page in her remembrance and can be accessed here. There’s a link on it to a shared online album, please feel free to share any photos you may have of her.

Mahalo Nui Loa.
