Aunty Ku’uipo, has agreed to do a short video documentary about her life and her passion for Hula. Born in 1918, she began dancing Hula in the 1930’s while traveling with her parents aboard the Matson Liners. Her father was a cook with the Matson Line and Aunty had many opportunities to learn and practice Hula. She later danced at many prestigious Hawaiian cultural venues like the Royal Hawaiian as well as the Hotel Lexington in New York. She was also a featured dancer in the 1930’s film Tahitian Nights. Aunty has never stopped dancing and is a revered dancer with the UFOs when she is in town. This video is brief snippet from a longer documentary that is currently a ‘Work-in-Progress’.
