Aloha UFOhana,

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?

I hope you’re all staying safe and dry out there. UFOHQ is still above water, but it’s still early in the rainy season. Did a bunch of repairs on the fence (again & again & again . . . ) this past weekend. installed the Hydrabarriers on the garage door last night. Secured our Hula Floor and tarps from the gale force winds with cinder blocks and empty 30lb Kitty Litter containers filled with water. Fighting fire with fire and water with water. Holo i mua!

Looks like it’s holding up . . . so far. Thankfully they finished working on the hill off North San Pedro, so it looks like we won’t be having a landslide anytime soon. All we have to do is batten the hatches, pump the bilges and strum like the Sun’s still shining.

What a contrast to last week Saturday’s beautiful weather. As you can see below, the Parkanikapiliens were out in force.

Below Nohea’s new line up for Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Day. Available now at your friendly neighborhood UFOHQ. Text her at 415-572-1175 to reserve yours now!

Brudda Keone K (John Kleinjans), whose sister just moved to the Big Island and just took up the Ukulele, shared the following with me. It was intended as a beginners song for her to play on her Ukulele. With his permission, I thought it’d be great to post to the ‘Ohana as well. Great footnotes at the end.

In fact, since I’m on a PDF posting mood, here’s a few more PPDFs (Past PDFs) handouts that some of you may have missed:

Aloha-Oe-Not-Goodbye-Madison-Sneath

Na-Vaqueros

There’s a menu that appears at the bottom of each PDF frame (see image below). The down arrow allows you download the PDF and the four square arrows switches to full screen viewing mode.

You’ll need to hit the ESC on your keyboard to return to regular viewing mode.

012021: Vanikapila 4.21.A

Hi All, I’m republishing this because of something(s) really fun I forgot to include. Check towards the bottom.

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,

Welcome back to the United States of Sanity everyone! I know there’s still a lot of work to be done, like cleaning up the Oval Office now that the previous tenant has left.

. . . but I can’t help but feel as though a great weight has been lifted, that Democracy survived the attempt at an (Un)Civil War and the healing can begin.

Watching the Inauguration was very inspiring (though a little tense). Except for our MVP stumbling on the steps, I was relieved that it went on without a hitch. I was so glad to see that humanity, intelligence and decency had returned to our Nation’s Capitol.

My sincere thanks and appreciation to all the Armed Forces and Security agencies that ensured a safe and smooth transfer of power. I felt a little sad that it took such a strong show of force to protect us from ourselves, but at least it was for the most part uneventful and I believe it sent a message. Though I do agree with Pauline that J-Low could have used some Ukulele accompaniment. Funny, I kept looking for Madison among the Marine Band performing at the event. Someday, yeah, No’eau?

So speaking of other good things. Below are images of Terry of Good Shepherd Lutheran and Benedetta (with glasses) of San Jose Middle Schools receiving the 20 Ukuleles purchased from Kala for their Music Programs. Mahalo Nui Loa to all that donated to PIKOhana, making this possible, to Ted for making the Kala Connection and to Lynnette for promoting the Ukulele as the gateway instrument to music teaching in our Marin Schools.

We hope to see Benedetta and Terry soon at one of our Kanikapila, once it’s safe to meet again. In the meantime they said they had a lot of learning and practicing to do.

PIKOhana’s next project is to send Ukuleles to an Ohana of Marshall Islanders out in Spokane, WA. So if you have any Ukuleles that need a new home please consider donating them to PIKOhana. We will provide donation letters to any donation of instruments or $$$ for your 2021 Tax Year.

Thinking ahead, Nohea has a new line of Valentine’s Masks for those interested. See below for a sample.

Only $10 for one, but wait, if you buy now you get two for $20!
