Another Funsy (Fun and Busy) week behind us. Starting with our Monthly Elks Dinner / Kanikapila. Check it out below.

Followed by an amazing afternoon with Professor Roberto Moniz.
And what an afternoon that was. Mahalo to you all for making Roberto and Paula feel so much at home. He enjoyed himself so much he kept mentioning that we wanted to by a house nearby. I think Melann can help with that?
The Kanikapila was magical, as many of you put it, and the Kaukau was delicious. Mahalo nui to you all for stepping up beyond cheese and crackers, though I do appreciate a nice charcuterie board! Paula and Roberto was very thankful.
Roberto’s concert was so informative and gave us a great introduction into the music of his culture.
The Sugar Cane Workers song was so soulful. It reminded me of the day I spent working in the Rice Fields with my cousins. Back breaking work, from 6 am to 6pm, but the songs they sung kept us all in line. Well almost all of us, I was a little new to that kind of work and lagged behind, but they didn’t seem to mind the help.
Roberto did mention that the Sugar Cane song was also a form of safety communication because of the dangerous path taken by the harvesters to the collection centers.
In my case, there was no danger. They were singing to encourage me to catch up, as they pushed the rice seedlings into the mud fields. A nice was of saying, “Hurry up, you’re too slow!”
As the event ended, Roberto and Paula were the last to leave, Roberto told me as he putting was on his shoes, “No, this is not California Del. This is little piece of Hawai’i in California!”
Mahalo Ted for making the connection to Roberto for us. Another UFOhana Event to be forever cherished and remembered.
