070225: Vanikapila 25.25 – County Fair Update

So I mentioned that this County Fair performance was our 15th. Our first was on 070210!

Has it really been that long?

Images from that Fair below.

Fast forward 15 years and here we are, adding 070225 images to the collection above.

We had a very good turn out this year and was well received by the audience.

The UFOHH (UFOhana Hula Hui) performed beautifully as did Susan and Jiboni. Mahalo to you folks for all the effort and practice you put in to give our County such a good show.

Mahalo to Jiboni and Nohea for the great photos and to our UFOhana for their support these 25 years of strumming together.

Click the image below to view us 15 years later. I’m sure you’ll recognize more UFOhana members this time!

I now return you to your regular Blog-gramming.

BOT:

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,

Another warm one . . . we hope you’ve been staying out of the heat this week and found some respite at a cool mall, beach, forest, or some other comfy place.

Mahalo nui loa to those of you that turned up this past Saturday and lent your beautiful singing voices, hula, and Aloha during our practice for the fair.

Mahalo Lynnette for arranging your Keikis to Kanikapila with us. They are such a precious Makana (gift) to the UFOhana. Please extend our Mahalo to their parents for allowing them to attend our events.

Btw, I want to say Mahalo to whomever for the great patch! Very cool! Got me thinking about a Halloween Outfit now . . .

Mahalo to my Secret Santa!

Marin County Fair Performers:

For those of you attending please be sure to read the following.

This year we’re hoping to have a larger audience. Considering that we are performing later in the day, it being the first day of the fair which means kids attend for free.

Though this event and tickets are for UFOhana performers only, Please feel free to invite your friends, neighbors, family, students to bring their own Ukuleles and join in the fun! Song books (aka Flight Manuals) will be available.

Performance Day:

  • Many of you already know the drill. Please be sure to be there no later than 12:30. We perform at 1pm, end at 1:45pm.
  • Setup your music stands before going onstage (share with another ‘Ohana member if possible).
  • Prep/tune your Ukulele before going in stage.
  • When it’s our turn, get on stage asap, but don’t run over each other doing so. Please help those in need of assistance.
  • Core musicians will line upfront.
  • Hula Dancers will be on stage and in front, with keiki’s next to the Vendola Cafe Core Band (VCCB). See below for Stage Plot details.
  • When you’re on stage please let the sound techs do their job(s), ie don’t get in their way. When we’re cleared for take off . . .
  • Remember to smile, connect with someone in the audience, and enjoy!

I’m told that the Vendola Cafe Hula Dancers will be wearing white hula dresses with Red Hibiscus and kukui nut leis.

I ask that anyone joining the VCHD dress as such, definitely no hula dancers with jeans. Join in only if you know the hula. The VCHD has been practicing diligently for this event so please respect their time on stage.

Everyone else, please wear Colorful Hawaiian Attire. Dress for warm weather. Stay hydrated.

Remember what Marion said, Look up at the audience once in a while and smile.

All VCCB members please bring your own Ukulele Cables to plug into the sound system. It’ll help speed up setup time.

I’ll be providing the Flight Manual, as usual, I’ll have a few for the audience as well.

Click here for a PDF copy.

I’ve also designed some Special Pins for the event and will hand them out on performance day.

For those of you who have registered and have not picked up your tickets, please contact Nohea (aka Linda Wallace) ASAP at 415-572-1175 to arrange for pickup.

Note: Because of the effort it takes to acquire these tickets, if you don’t pickup your tickets before the performance, I will remove you from any future performances.

I could not find a 2025 Fair Map, but I’m assuming we’ll be at the same location as last year, the “Kaiser Permanente Community Stage”, see below. Of course, it could have a different Sponsor Name, but the location has always been the same, so far.
