Aloha All,
If you’ve received any emails from Ralph requesting money, please disregard and delete the email immediately! It’s a phishing scam!
I just got word from Ralph Pinkerton that someone has stolen his email list and is masquerading as him.
The deceptiveness of this hack is that the FROM: address is one of Ralph’s valid email address.
BUT, the REPLY TO: part is an email created by the hacker on a fictitious account created in OUTLOOK.COM. So all reply and $$$ donations go to them.
By itself, the OUTLOOK address appears to Ralph’s account except that the real Ralph doesn’t have an OUTLOOK.COM email.
How did this Hacker obtain his Email List?
This type of hack is usually done when someone else’s email message is actually hacked/intercepted that contains a CC: to all their friends / family / group / ‘Ohana, etc. Once intercepted, they ‘harvest’ the emails for use in later phishing scams.
To protect yourself and other always use BCC: (Blind Copy) instead of CC: when send emails to large groups. This way if that email is intercepted all they’ll obtain is your email address.
Be Safe Out There!
Aloha,
