straining for a breath,
each a request for release,
then one silent sigh . . .

My father, Delfin De la Cruz, Sr., passed today at 6:15pm our time. He was 90 years old. Though I could not be at his side. I witnessed his passing through a “Daddy Cam” my sister had setup and was actually able to communicate with them. The only thing missing was being able to touch him. Though my brothers and sisters made sure to touch and kiss him for me. I was able to send him one last, “I Love You Dad” before he passed. My sister, Susan, said he actually tried to open his eyes when he heard my voice . . . a father to the end.

On behalf of Familia Medina, Linda and Myself, I wish to extend a Maraming Salamat Po (Thank You very much) to the UFOhana for all your prayers and mana you sent to my Tatay (Father) during his final journey home. He worked hard for most of his 90 years to support his family of 6 children and 13 or so grand and great grand children. Working through 4 Careers, until our higher power told him it was finally time to retire . . . once last time.

Rest well my dear father and thank you for sharing your love and name with me.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your dear dad. You loved him well! Take care

  2. My sincere condolences, Del. You dad sure produced a loving family. I’m sure he was very proud of you and will live on in your heart. Aloha my friend.

  3. So glad you were able to visit in person and again online for his passing. I suspect you were both proud of each other. I’m from a big family as well. I think one of the things that draws me to the UFOhana is the big family aspect of it. It’s quite amazing that you’ve put so many talented people ( artists ) together for twenty two years. Nice to be a part of it. I would like to think his Spirit lives on through you and gets passed on to us. Mahalo for keeping it going.

    Much love Don & Marty

  4. Dear Dale,
Very sorry to hear about the loss of your father. My regards to You and your family and Thank You for all that you do!

I’m not in the Bay Area anymore, separated from Mary Alice and bought a house in my mom’s hometown of Waynesboro, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. I’m enjoying life here and the music scene is particularly good. I don’t know when I’ll be back in the Bay Area but appreciate hearing from UFO. I’m going to the last Tunes In The Dunes ukulele camp in Lincoln, Oregon late September in case y’all are sending anyone there. Mary Alice is looking to move from Bishop, CA, to da Big Island, probably by Fall this year.

Again very sorry for your loss but keep on strumming!
    Aloha
    Skip Prout
