012021: Vanikapila 4.21.A

Hi All, I’m republishing this because of something(s) really fun I forgot to include. Check towards the bottom.

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,

Welcome back to the United States of Sanity everyone! I know there’s still a lot of work to be done, like cleaning up the Oval Office now that the previous tenant has left.

. . . but I can’t help but feel as though a great weight has been lifted, that Democracy survived the attempt at an (Un)Civil War and the healing can begin.

Watching the Inauguration was very inspiring (though a little tense). Except for our MVP stumbling on the steps, I was relieved that it went on without a hitch. I was so glad to see that humanity, intelligence and decency had returned to our Nation’s Capitol.

My sincere thanks and appreciation to all the Armed Forces and Security agencies that ensured a safe and smooth transfer of power. I felt a little sad that it took such a strong show of force to protect us from ourselves, but at least it was for the most part uneventful and I believe it sent a message. Though I do agree with Pauline that J-Low could have used some Ukulele accompaniment. Funny, I kept looking for Madison among the Marine Band performing at the event. Someday, yeah, No’eau?

So speaking of other good things. Below are images of Terry of Good Shepherd Lutheran and Benedetta (with glasses) of San Jose Middle Schools receiving the 20 Ukuleles purchased from Kala for their Music Programs. Mahalo Nui Loa to all that donated to PIKOhana, making this possible, to Ted for making the Kala Connection and to Lynnette for promoting the Ukulele as the gateway instrument to music teaching in our Marin Schools.

We hope to see Benedetta and Terry soon at one of our Kanikapila, once it’s safe to meet again. In the meantime they said they had a lot of learning and practicing to do.

PIKOhana’s next project is to send Ukuleles to an Ohana of Marshall Islanders out in Spokane, WA. So if you have any Ukuleles that need a new home please consider donating them to PIKOhana. We will provide donation letters to any donation of instruments or $$$ for your 2021 Tax Year.

Thinking ahead, Nohea has a new line of Valentine’s Masks for those interested. See below for a sample.

Only $10 for one, but wait, if you buy now you get two for $20!

  1. The picture of the destroyed oval office was funny. Although, it was close to being real. Thank you for acknowledging the women from the Lutheran Church who were donating ukes to the local school. There are more nice people in this world than the ones who urged on and those who actually entered our Capitol building.
    Thank you’Jerry

    1. Sadly, I fear you’re right about it being close to real.

Regarding the Ukulele Donations, On behalf of PIKOhana, it was our pleasure. We hope the students enjoy their new instruments. Mahalo Jerry for keeping the good word alive out there.

      Aloha,
      Del

  2. Can you send me the link to the gathering Saturday? I had it once but cannot find it. Thanks!

    1. Hi Mary,

The link is found on the weekly blog posting. It’s the YOUTUBE link I include with every weekly posting.

      Aloha,
