101420: Vanikapila Iwakālua kūmāhikum (#27)

BOT:

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,

Hope you’ve all been able to get into some of the “better weather” we’ve been having lately. At least the air in our area has been pretty decent as of late. It was extremely pleasant this past Saturday, a little overcast turning into blue skies, with cool clear air. Hope this continues onto Halloween.

Speaking of Halloween. We’ve decided to change the time for Vanikapila on 10/31 to 6:30pm – 8:30pm, to celebrate the Blue Moon and Halloween.

We invite all Outdoor Kanikapila-ers to “Come As They Aren’t”, i.e. in costume. We invite all of you in Vanikapila Land to “Strum as you aren’t” as well, i.e. in costumes. If you do, please send me photos so we can post on the blog. Email your photos to me at kaleikoa@piko.ws .

For inspiration, click here to view last year’s Halloween Kanikapila.

Though we’re a little subdued this year because of C-19, Nohea has been diligently prepping Studio K’ULU for the Day of the Deceased (is that the Marin PC way to say it?). You can view it and the OK’rs by clicking below.

Click above to view the Día de Muertos decorations and the events from last Saturday.

So instead of working on the indoor decorations, we’ll be decorating the backyard to help set the mood for those that attend on 10/31.

Stay tuned, I’m sure the photos will be great!

Again, on behalf of Nohea an myself, Mahalo Nui Loa to all the OK Preppers that come every week to help with setup and teardown and to the K’ULU Studio band. You folks make it all so worthwhile!

I’ve been busy myself prepping for the fall rains. Mainly doing fence repair, during my days off, from the last wind storm we had. Hammered down 12 steel posts next to old wooden ones as reinforcements. Hoping they’ll hold for yet another year. Boy are my arms tired, didn’t help that we both got our Flu and Shingles shots this past Saturday. Here’s hoping that all this SD-ing and PPE Wearing will make this year’s Flu season a lighter one than last.

I want to send another Mahalo Nui Loa, on behalf of the PIKOhana Executive Board, to all of you that sent your generous donations to PIKOhana in Memory of Marion.

Thanks to your contributions we were able to assemble a Computer System for Lynnette Boosey that will assist with her Distance Music Teaching program.

The system will allow Lynnette to teach, create material, and maintain a curriculum with her Music Students through the C19 Pandemic and beyond (but we’re hoping it won’t come to that).

Below, Lynnette with her new computer system.

Ok, you got me, Lynnette doesn’t wear dresses . . . . here she is below . . .

Please send your get well Aloha’s to Pauline’s dear Django, below, who is recovering from eye surgery. I hear he’s doing much better now.

Aloha everyone! Please don’t forget to wear your masks . . . and your cone of shame . . . if your mommy says to.

This Friday, 10/16, The Elks will be holding another fundraising dinner 6p-8p. A small UFOhana Band will be playing indoors on the Magnolia Terrace. Purchase a Box Dinner, bring your Uke and Gig Books, music stands, books light, clips, warm gear, and strum along with us.

Here’s the Elk’s link for details: https://www.elks1108.org/event/joes-cafe-a-go-go . Please note that though the Website may says Dining Room, the venue has changed from the Dining Room to the Magnolia Terrace.

Finally, below, the link to next week’s Vanikapila.

Don’t forget to TEXT me at 415-300-7804 if you’ll be joining us in the backyard. Also, text Nohea at 415-572-1175 with song requests if you can’t get through the LiveStream Chat line.

  1. Aloha Del,
I really like your “Jake-onaught” graphic- that is certainly one handsome space cat!

    1. Thanks, but it’s actually not my work and I don’t know who the artist is. I just modified it to look like Jake. Yet another great Internet Artifact hacked by Del.
