I hope you’re all surviving the heatwave. At least we may be on the tail end of the blistering temperatures. Good thing “Global Warming” is myth huh? Btw, has anyone noticed there’s green ice in Antarctica now?
On a more pleasant note, we’re about half way to our 7th Saturday Vanikapila. The heat has dried the carpet, Sandy has cleaned all the windows (Mahalo Sandy!) and UFOHQ is prepped for its not too distant re-opening (hopefully). In the meantime we will continue moving forward with our Vanikapila Sessions. We hope you stick with us.
Mahalo nui to Rick and Ted for lending us their musical talents last week. To Sandy for being our heartbeat and for Nohea for all the support she gives me and the Crew. A special Mahalo to Kathy Zenz and Cindy Meigs for your donations, much appreciated! I bought a longer USB cable so we can push back the WebCam to include our Studio Guests. I have some sad news. Stan Heins, long time friend of Pauline and dear friend of the UFOhana passed this past Monday. He lost his long battle with his illness, but during that time he remained very kind, soft spoken, generous, witty and courageous man. You would often see him sitting quietly among the Ukulele Madness, tapping his foot, just smiling and enjoying the music and hula. Mahalo to Pauline for sharing Stan with our Ohana, our hearts and Aloha go out to you.
Aloha Oe Stan! We will miss you.

Hey guys,
I sat in with Dan Freeman at a neighbors house for your stream Saturday 5/30 . There was an echo on your audio that made it impossible to follow along with you.
If you have a live speaker in the room your broadcast doesn’t work.
EVERYBODY, in your room, needs to be in headphones in this situation.
If there was no speaker in the room , then you must have had the audio feeding back into your broadcast channel on your mixer/audio interface.
Love to do this again if you work that out. Looked like it could have been fun.

Thanks for the response and sorry you had such a terrible experience. Regarding speakers in the room, no we don’t have live speakers in the room, and we all wear headphones.
I did listen to the recording, located at https://youtu.be/uBOCnpjdjLk, from last week and I don’t hear that bad echo as you described. However, I did had an issue with an active USB extension cable that blew out the WEBCam, the mixer USB interface, and the OBS software, just 10 minutes before going live. So after swapping the mixer, reinstalling OBS another WebCam and a quick sound check, I managed to get the system running a few minutes after 2pm. Unfortunately I couldn’t hear that echo on our end, it’s kind of difficult to troubleshoot something I can’t hear, since we were running late and no one else was complaining I decided to keep going with it.
I did some diagnostics after the gig and found that the mic on the WebCam was switched on, probably when I reloaded ths OBS Software broadcasting software. So we had the input from the mixer and the mic feeding into the live stream. I also realise that the reason we couldn’t hear that echo was because our headphones were plugged into the mixer, which did not include the feed from the WebCam mic. I haven’t been able to get OBS to consistently monitor the final mix, when it does work it’s disconcerting when your playing because of latency in the A/D conversion. Hence the reason for plugging into the Analog mix. I can monitor the output visually and that’s all. I guess you get what you pay for (OBS is free open source software).
That’s a good point about feedback from the USB port as it is a bi-directional interface, I checked that on the mixer and it was switched off (i.e. USB was not feeding into the Main Mix).
To to keep this short, after about 3 hours of checking the mixer and resetting the software and testing. I think it might have been the Webcam mic causing the problem you were hearing. Finger crossed for Saturday.
