042920: Vanikapila 050220 . . . (updated)

BOT:

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,

Mahalo for your participation in another fun Vanikapila and it looks like another Vanikapila on the weekend horizon for us.

I want to thank all of you for you patience with the technical issues we’ve been having and for sticking through with us. Speaking about sticking with us, how about we all send out a BEEEEG Mahalo Nui Loa to our Bass Commander Sandy for being the heartbeat of our Vanikapila? Text him if you can or leave comments for him on this blog.

Regarding the Chat problems some of you were experiencing, I did some late night Googling and found that it is known bug. With comments and pleas for help starting back from 7/1/2019 to as of a few hours ago (someone else just post a comment with a lot of expletive deleted and **** s).

I also found the following on the YouTube site regarding Live Chatting:

Live chat basics

Viewers can choose between two views of Live chat at any time.

  1. Top chat: This view filters messages such as potential spam to help make chat easier to read and more useful.
  2. Live chat: This view is not filtered. It shows all chat messages as they come in. (This is the setting you’re probably want to use – Del)

Viewers are limited to 200 characters and a maximum of 3 submissions every 30 seconds. (i.e. don’t be too “chatty” – Del)

Event owners are not subject to the frequency threshold. (that would be me – Del)

Viewers cannot post special characters, URLs or HTML tags.

To post in live chat, click into where it says “Say Something” and begin typing. Then, click the send icon .

Btw, there was mention of an AI (Artificial Intelligence) / algorithm software that may be blocking questionable chat content like “What Page? What Key? What Book? What Email?” …. just kidding about the content thing. But apparently the AI/Algorithm is real thing, so do be careful about your chat content else you may be blacklisted by the AI/Big Brother/Orwellian Algorithm, who knows what logic lurks in the minds of algorithm programmers, bwahahahaha!

I’m sure Google (who owns YouTube) will work out the Chat issue, eventually. I hope they do, it was sure fun reading all your comments!

In the meantime, I don’t think I’d be able to manage running the Video Control software, checking the sound mix, reading Chat, reading phone texts, and playing the ukulele and and and . . .

What I would suggest is for you folks that get bounced off Live Chat is to text someone you know, who’s still on chat, and have them put in your comments/requests for you. Just a thought . . .

Until do they do find a fix, the bottom line is . “Chat is what it is . . . ” , or you could also say, “What do you expect for free?”

Mixer and Computer.

For you curious tech types . . . here’s what I’m looking at between songs.

On the laptop is the YouTube “Control Room” LiveStream software. This connects the audio and video signals into YouTube Live Stream. It gives me status on Signal Quality for both Audio and Video, the number of viewers and on the right side, the Chat panel.

Above the laptop is the Sound Mixer where we mix the audio and instrument (Bass Guitar, Ukulele) feeds.

It’s a Mackie ProFx12 with a USB port that connected by a the (white) usb cable into the laptop. Providing the audio signal, Na Pepeiao (The Ears), for our event.

Logitech BCC950 WebCam.

Left, is the Logitech BCC950 Conference Web Camera. Na Maka (The Eyes) of our Vanikapila.

Btw, for those of you with only Gig Books available I’ve created a Master Table of Contents (listing all songs in all Volumes and Gig Book) to help you find your way during our Vanikapila. Click here to download the PDF.

Keep in mind that the Gig Book doesn’t have all the keys for certain songs as was designed to be easy to carry and used at our Ohana “Gigs”.

Mahalo Nui Loa Brudda Wikio fo’ dis Ono-licious Posta!

  1. Del, so glad to have a great techie leader!
Thanks for all you do above and beyond!
See you Saturday. I’m loving it! 😎🎶

  2. We are marooned on Kauai with few options for plane reservations to get back to California. Oh well, could be worse! My gym here offers exercise classes on the zoom cloud meetings app, that is incredibly easy to use. Would that work for you?

  3. Mahalo Sandy for keeping us on track with your big back beat and beautiful voice on YouTube last week. Del osunded good, too.
    Thank you, Linda and Jake.
Look forward to strumming with you soon.

    Aloha, Lid and Maryland

P.S. song request – Black Magic Woman with your solos.
