052815: Kanikapila at the Elks this Friday

Aloha All,
We’ll be at the Elks this Friday, usual run time of 7:00p to 10:00p. As you can guess by the lateness of this posting it’s been yet another PITA week. It’s the last Friday of the month so it’s Fancy Dinner Night at the Elks this Friday. Check out their link for details and menu: http://elks1108.org/Newsletter.html .  Mahalo Nui Loa to the Elks for hosting the UFOhana once again and for their undying support.

This Saturday it our ‘Test Flight’ at the Barefoot Café. Check them out here: http://www.barefootcafe.com/   Run time 2p-4p. It may be a little bit more crowded so just bring what you need and nothing more. Mahalo to Claudia for arranging this opportunity. Keep in mind that we want to make a good first impression, so please do consider ordering a meal or at least some kind of drink other than a glass of water. Btw, check out this special announcement for our premiere Kanikapila at the Barefoot:  http://ufohana.org/barefoot-cafe-5302015-brudda-alohas-ukulele-revival-and-hula-review/  Yet another amazing creation from Brudda Wikio!

Last week Friday we had the opportunity to Kanikapila at the San Pedro Elementary School, located right here in San Rafael. Lynnette brought a few of her Keiki from Lynnwood Elementary to perform with us as well. As you can see below they were well received. We thought we’d have to call in Security when Lynnette’s Keiki broke out “Johnny B. Goode”!  (Click collages below to access the photo albums). Mahalo Leslie (of Bogie’s Café) for arranging this!

Which we’re holding at UFOHQ this Friday once again. The usual run time from 7:30 till whenever, or until the last Ukulele Player drops. I have to admit that the “Stalwarts” (not to be confused with the Walwarts, or was it Walmarts?) hung in there pretty good last week. As usual, BYPotLuck, some Healthy (but not too healthy) Main Dish/Salad/(but please, for our diabetics sake, go easy on the) Dessert, BYOGear (a music stand and maybe a folding chair) and of course some Aloha to pass onto others. Mahalo Nui Loa for all the great food last week and to Lopaka and his KP Krew for helping out with the dishes and stuff, and for your generous donations to the Yellow Bucket. 1-051515 UFOHQ Kanikapila

That following Saturday was a bittersweet one at the Sleeping Lady, as it marked the last Kanikapila before the Sunday closing of our the Saturday home for the last 4 years. We were so fortunate to have great friends in Isult, David and Jack that they had allowed us share our Ukulele, Mele and Aloha with the Fairfax community these past years. Mahalo Nui Loa to the Owners and Crew of the Sleeping Lady and best of luck to all of you in your future endeavors!

1-051615 (Last) Sleeping Lady Kanikapila

This Saturday we’ll be at the Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club, http://sonomavalleywomansclub.org/ , run time from 2p – 4p. Betty Ann and her Halau, Hula Mai, will be hosting us at this event. We ask that everyone donate at least $5 to the SVWC to help out with opening up their wonderful Hale to us. BYOGear, we’ll have chairs, and there may be some refreshments for sale.

The following Saturday, the 30th, we’ve been invited to the Barefoot Café in Fairfax. Same run time as Sleeping Lady, located across the parking lot from Sleeping Lady, same run time as SL, 2pm – 4pm, http://www.barefootcafe.com/ .  Tony and crew has been so generous in inviting us, so we ask that you consider ordering refreshments or a meal to help out. Mahalo Nui Loa to Claudia for helping set up this opportunity.

Then June 2nd, Tuesday, Paul has arranged a “Happy Hour” Ukulele Session at the San Rafael Joe’s on 4th Street. Run time from 6:30pm to 9pm. Just a test run for now . . . we hope to have a good turn out.

Like did I mentioned like buying a plastic Uke for $9.99 in like my favorite kahlur? OMG! WTUke!

Hula Dancer and Dancing Pua extra . . . cool huh? I figure if I get tired of it I can always turn it into an Aquarium!

Curious object,
Substance from another time,
Joyous sounds abound

Alright all, it’s already tomorrow, time to get to bed.

Me ke Aloha Pumehana,
like, like, meeeooowww . . . baby . . . .

051415: Kanikapila at UFOHQ Friday

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,
Sorry for the late posting, been another one of those weeks and a couple more just like it coming up. TGFK! Thank God For Kanikapila! Which we’re holding at UFOHQ this Friday. A usual run time from 7:30 till whenever, or until the last Ukulele Player drops. BYPotLuck, some Healthy (but not too healthy) Main Dish/Salad/(but please, for our diabetics sake, go easy on the) Dessert, BYOGear (a music stand and maybe a folding chair) and of course some Aloha to pass onto others.

Many of you may already be aware of Sleeping Lady closing down. Which marks this Saturday as our last Kanikapila at the Sleeping Lady Café (aka Wahine Moe Moe). Please express your Mahalos and good will to the crew,  Bethany, Christine, Alama, Rose, Jack, Isult and many others that made us feel so welcome at Wahine Moe Moe. Please do wish them luck in their future endeavors.  Mahalo Nui Loa to Claudia Vasquez for introducing us to the Sleeping Lady ‘Ohana and for all her support in other UFOhana endeavors.

It’s been a fun, great 3 years at the Lady and we hoping that we may be able to find a new home nearby at (again with Claudia’s help) the Barefoot Café. We’re hoping to schedule a Test Flight at the Barefoot on the 30th. We had originally scheduled it for the 23rd but Linda reminded me that we’re scheduled to be at the Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club instead. So come and jam with us at the SVWC on the 23rd instead. Here’s their website,  http://sonomavalleywomansclub.org/ , hope to see you there next week.

A heads up for another Test Flight, our good friend (What Page?) Paul, has arranged a Kanikapila at the San Rafael Joe’s on 4th street, June 2nd, 6:30p – 9:00p. Keep the date open and stay tuned for more details.

We’ve got more events coming up so keep checking back for details.

So last week we were at the Elks, a little different this time as we had our 1st Pot Luck there. Even got to celebrate Ellie’s Birthday and got to see Aunty Ku’uipo Hula again before she left for the Marshall Islands. A Jet Setter and a Hula Dancers, not bad for some one 96 years young! Click the collages below to link to the albums…

. . . on ward to Mother’s Day at Wahine Moe Moe . . .

1-050915 Sleeping Lady Kanikapila

Ok, hope to you all this Friday or Saturday sometime. I have a new Ukulele I want to show off in my favorite color . . . CLEAR!

Ghostly forms drifting,
Winds carry faint songs of joy,
Days at The Lady

Aloha  A Hui Hou,

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,

We’ll be in the Elks Bar again this Friday, however, no casual dinner will be provided this Friday as most of the Elks will be out at a Special Elk Function.

Instead we’ll be holding a Pot Luck instead.  So please do bring a Main Dish to share with your Ohana if you will be joining us for dinner, make sure you bring enough to share with Brudda Mike our favorite Barista –Tender.  Drinks will be available from Brudda Mike at the Bar. We’ll probably have a table near the bar some where for the incoming rations. Not sure about plates and utensils, you may want to apply Murphy’s 5th Law and bring some disposable dinner ware so you “won’t need it”.

I’m thinking we’ll start playing at around 7pm. People can break for Dinner whenever they want. We ask that you all please do help with minimizing the clean up by picking up after yourselves and your left overs. Linda and I will greatly appreciate it. Mahalo once again to Joe and the Elks for hosting us.

On a somber note . . . please continue to send your Aloha, prayers and kind thoughts to Gary, who lost his mother last week. Gary, we wish you and your family a the best, Malama Pono.

Last week images below . . . beginning with Kanikapila at UFO HQ (click the collages to access the photo album)

Then Wahine Moe Moe where we were treated by sassy hulas from our oldest Hula Dancer (coming in at a spry 96), Aunty Ku’uipo! She traveled all the way from San Diego to visit with her Niece and spend a Saturday with her favorite UFOhana. Mahalo Aunty!

1-050215 Sleeping Lady Kanikapila

Until Friday and a Happy Mother’s Day to all our UFOhana Moms out there!

Ancient hands beckon,
Eyes full of wisdom flicker,
A kolohe smile . . .

Aloha A Hui Hou,
