Mahalo to those that attended last night, for making it so festive and filling that cold lanai with such warm Aloha. Mahalo to our Cyber O’hana for adding their positive likes to the online event and to Mary Tiger for her hulas and for sharing her Aloha with us, all the way from O’ahu and to Pauline for helping with the decorations and heavy lifting. And, of course, to my beloved Nohea for herding the cats, keeping me on track and all the wonderful photos.

122323: UFO Ugly Sweater/Pajama Night/Vanikapila 41.23

Aloha All,

Got so busy I forgot to post this. Hope you folks in Cyber Ohana land can make this!

BOT:

Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana,

We’re having our UFO US/PJ/V night this Saturday beginning at 6 PM. Please register here if you will be attending IRL (InRealLife) and what you’ll be bringing for your Pot Luck.

For those of you needing some inspiration, click below for examples of some the great UF/PJ’s from last year.

Also, we have been invited to perform at the California Academy of Sciences January 1, 2024. If you haven’t already, please register here ASAP as attendance is limited and they need a list of attendees by Wednesday 12/20 at the latest. After which registration is closed.

For those of you attending, please note the latest update from Patrick Sysiong (our CAS host):

Arrival – parking and entering the building:

  • Arrival time at 11am. Please be prompt as the check in process can take some time.
  • Enter through our Business Entrance at 75 Nancy Pelosi Dr.
  • When you arrive, let the Business Reception Desk know you are here to perform and Patrick will meet your group there.
  • Reserved street parking will be marked by A frames on the North side of Nancy Pelosi Dr. in Zone B, C (See attached map). I will provide a sign for each car’s dashboard. Do not park in the garage, as I cannot reimburse garage fees.
  • Upon arrival, all performers and chaperones 18+ will need to complete two things: 1) Sign into the building on the iPads at our Business Reception Desk – This will let the CalAcademy know who’s in the building and how to contact individuals if there is a COVID-19 exposure; 2) Sign the Participant Waiver – I’ve attached it below for you to reference beforehand. (Click here to review the form)
  • Guests will also check in at Business Reception, and will be directed onto the public floor. They will not need to sign into the building with the iPads.
  • The CalAcademy’s current health and safety protocols do not require proof of vaccination, negative test results, nor masking to enter the building, but they are all highly encouraged. Here is a link to our full protocols for your reference.

Green room and lunch:

  • The green room will be available from 11am to 5pm.
  • After the performances end at 2:30pm, the performers and chaperones are more than welcome to roam the museum as guests. You can leave your instruments and belongings in the green room until the museum closes at 5pm, but please note there will not be a staff member assigned to monitor the room.
  • Pizza will be provided for the performers after the 12pm performance, at around 12:30pm.
  • Feel free to bring any snacks or beverages.

Performance logistics:

  • The two performances will start promptly at 12pm and 2pm, a maximum of 20 minutes each on the Piazza Stage. (Please be aware of the timing, as the snow flurries and accompanying music will automatically start at 12:25pm and 2:25pm and cannot be turned off nor performed over.) Set up will begin 15-20 minutes before each performance.
  • A single 1/4 line input that feeds into the Piazza speakers and a monitor speaker will be provided.

We had another 2-fer week. Below are images from the first event, the Farmers Winter Market. It was a cold night but the Intrepid UFOhana Marines Stormed the Street Head, setup UFO Base Camp and warmed it up with some Hula, Christmas Carols, Blues and lots of Warm Aloha. Mahalo to you all for bringing your A(loha) Game to Fairfax that night.

Mahalo to Minna Kim and the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce for inviting us. Mahalo Melann for making the connection. Mahalo to Senior UFO Pilot, Rick Creelman, for strumming and singing with us that night. It’s been a long time coming . . .

Secondly, we were on schedule for our 40th Vanikapila of the year (below). I know, it’s been a few weeks, but we were “busy”.
