092415: Kanikapila at UFO HQ this Friday!

BOT:

Aloha All,

Sorry for the late notice (it’s been one of those months . . . again).

I just found out that a private party has been booked at the Elks this Friday. So we’ll be at UFO HQ instead (aka 1585 Vendola Drive, San Rafael). Run Time 7PM to 10-ish. BYPotluck, BYOGear, BYAloha!

I want to say on behalf of Linda and PIKO, Mahalo Nui Loa to all of you that participated and assisted with the PIKO Fundraiser: HELE ON UKULELE 2015. We raised almost $2000 this year in donations and entry fees.We could not have done it without the help of the Best UFOhana in (and out of) this world! Also, our eternal gratitude goes out to the best Elks Lodge (#1108) in Marin for providing such a beautiful venue and delicious lunch! If you haven’t already please consider helping out the Elks by joining the lodge. They have been so gracious, kind and generous to the UFOhana in providing us a venue for our music. Be sure to express your Mahalos to the Elk-ders when you see them . . .*****NEWS FLASH***** I just got word tonight, from Joe Tato, that PIKO was awarded a significant grant from the Elks! Mahalo Nui Loa e Me Ke Aloha Pumehana Elks!

image

And speaking of grants and donations, some of you who were at Hele On Ukulele witnessed our latest donation to the Lynwood Elementary School, in the form of a Bass Guitar and Amp system, pictured above, Ms. Boosey and Amy (just barely taller than the Bass) next to the system purchased from Magic Flute.  It’s ‘Ohana like you that help make awards like these possible, helping PIKO propagate music, with instructors like Lynnette, via the Ukulele, to our youths in Marin and beyond. I have to say the Keiki Entries are getting better and better every year! Soon they’ll be competing in the Adults division, watch out!

This Saturday we’ll Kanikapila at the Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club. 2p-4p, donations of $5 are requested at the door to help with operating costs.
We’ve also been invited to a couple cool events in October, Red Oak Victory Ship and the Sharktober Fest and on Oct 23rd, Friday, we’ve been invited to Kanikapila at the Petaluma Elks! But I’m too tired to get into it right now, so please keep checking back here for details.

BOT:

Aloha Ahi Ahi Ka Kou,

Hope your week is off to a good start. We’re meeting at the UFO HQ this Friday, 7p-10p, BYPotluck, BYOGear (chairs?), BYAloha. Email me at Kaleikoa@piko.ws if you need an address to the HQ.

Speaking of bringing Aloha, please send good thoughts and your Aloha to the families and victims of the MIddletown Fire. I understand that there are a few of our UFOhana that had members of their ‘Ohana lose their homes in this tragic event. On behalf of Linda and myself, we send blessings and good wishes out to them all.

This Saturday we’ll be meeting at San Rafael Joe’s on 4th Street, usual time of 2p-4p, in their convention/meeting hall. Lunch and beverages will be served in the main dining room only. BYOGear (music stands, lights?).

Don’t forget about our PIKO / Hele On Fund Raiser this weekend. Not to late to enter and we’ve got a few Ukulele Vendors attending the Uku-Market so bring your $$$ and or an Old Uke to sell if you like! Thanks to Charlotte and Marissa we will be raffling off a Brand New Kala Tenor Ukulele, valued at over $300! Don’t miss the chance to win this one, it’s a beauty! We could still use extra helping hands for anyone available and will out there  . . .

Mahalo Nui Loa to the Napa Valley Uke Fest Away Team. You folks certainly helped make it a fun event and thanks again to all of you for making the effort and time to get out there. Click the collage below for the album . . . Mahalo Nui to Donna Bragg for all the great photos and to Elaine de Man for allowing us to participate. Hope to see you folks next year. Btw, Elaine will be bringing her Ukulele Store to the Hele On Ukulele event on the 20th. That would be a great time to stock up on Uke Accessories.

I also understand, from Elaine, that the UFOhana Flight Manuals we brought for the event brought in good money for the Survivor Girl Ukulele Band (www.sgub.org) Organization. Laurie Kallevig’s effort to bring healing and recovery to victims of human trafficking in Kalkota via the Ukulele. 090115: Kanikapila at UFOHQ this Friday!

BOT:

Aloha UFOhana,

Yes, we are meeting at UFO HQ this Friday instead of Campbell Hall. Working in the Garage from Hell has taken its toll on my back and I thought I’d give it a break  (pun intended) from hauling gear this weekend. Run time 7p – 10p-ish. BYPotLuck, BYChair (Just In Case) and BYAloha to share with everyone. Saturday Kanikapila will be held at the UFO HQ also. Run time 2p-4p. Strictly Music Only, i.e. No Food, but BYOBeverage is OK and BYOGear. Post a comment here or email me at Kaleikoa@piko.ws if you need directions to UFOhana HQ.

Woa! Check out the forest fire on the Birthday Cake below . Mahalo to Charlotte for providing ‘our’ Birthday cake(s) last Friday. Click the collage to view album:

Once again, don’t forget about our PIKO Fundraiser on Sept 20th, see below for details. We still have openings for the Uku-Market (aka Hawaiian for Flea Market). We’re providing a space, free of charge, to anyone who’s interested in selling / swapping / or showing off their Ukulele or maybe even collection of Ukuleles. Or maybe you’d just like to provide an Ukulele Service Station / Tune Up (for a small fee of course)? Kind of like a “This Old Uke” kind of thing.  Anyway, we’re hoping to create an atmosphere of An Ukulele Village / Market Place. So we’re open to anything involving the Ukulele.
