Since 1982, the Bay Area Human Race, produced by Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL), has been a critical fundraiser for many nonprofits. Race day features a fun and energizing 5K run/walk at the historic Marin County Civic Center lagoon park and fairgrounds, including music, Kids Races and activities, a dog walk, the Community Village Fair and a pancake breakfast. The event is open to everyone — and the entire community is invited to participate. Hundreds of volunteers, spectators and supporters donate to causes and contribute to the success.

The UFOhana will be playing 8:30a-9:20am-ish. BYOGear (books, stands, hats, clips, sunscreen, noise makers, etc.). Charlotte will be raffling off 2 Makala Ukuleles $5 / ticket, to fundraise for Ukulele Elementary Teacher Instructions.

Last week was a pretty busy week. But, we were lucky enough to get in a Friday Kanikapila, click here for images.

Some of you may be aware that Uncle Jack (Ciardelli), a long time member of our UFOhana, has not been doing too well. But in spite of his health issues he’s managed to attend our last few Kanikapilas. I understand that his family is keeping him company at his and Joanie’s Hale, and that Barbara and Tucker even managed to sneak in a little “Maui Hawaiian Supa Man” while visiting with him the other day. Please keep in him your thoughts this week. Send Aloha and Light to this very kind and gentle man, Joanie, and his loving family. Me Ke Aloha Pumehana Uncle Jack!

  1. Aloha UFOhana . . . sad news about Uncle Jack below from Joanie . . .

I am so very sad, now that the man of my heart, my dear Jack Ciardelli, has left his body. Tears flow as I feel both the gratitude and deepest sorrow… and I know he is in a better place as his spirit soars in the angelic realm. He left in great grace, just as the Hospice helper was bathing him to keep him more comfortable… I suspect he didn’t want to choose which of his dear family would be with him when he left, and felt safe at that moment. We went into the room just as Izzy’s version of “Over the Rainbow” was playing, one of Jack’s very favorite songs… and a special part of the ukulele Ohana he loved so much….

The social worker happened also to be here at that time… so she handled the details… great grace surrounded us in our deep sadness. And Jesus, his main Hospice nurse, came shortly thereafter… He has been a godsend to us throughout this process. We are truly held in the light.

I’m so blessed to have Jack’s wonderful children and their families around me; they are such a blessing as I cry my tears and look for distractions… A swim yesterday afternoon definitely helped – with daughter Gina and granddaughter Wren. We honored Jack with Italian take-out, red wine, and Train Dominoes last night. He brought so much love into my life… and will continue to do so forever, as my heart has grown so much bigger thanks to my beloved of 13+ years.
    Love, peace and many blessings,
    Joanie

    Joanie,
On behalf of Linda, and the UFOhana we send our warmest Aloha to you and Jack’s family. We are all blessed to have met and spent such fun times with Uncle Jack. Truly, one of the kindest, gentlest souls I have ever met. I know Jack is strumming away right now, hope the others Angels don’t mind . . . if there’s anyway we can help during this time of your loss . . . please, just ask.

    Malama Pono,
    Del and Linda
